Support when you need it
“Working at Am2pm has been one of the best choices I’ve made. It gave me opportunities to meet lovely people like my colleagues and the privilege to care for people, meeting their needs and being supportive physically, emotionally and mentally, which is the greatest blessing to humanity.”
How does live-in care compare to residential care?
Residential care is the right choice for some people, but it should never feel like the only option. When people are moved into residential care against their true wishes, it often impacts their mental health.
Live-in care means having a companion who can support all your needs and spend quality time with you. You won’t have to settle for whichever group activity the residential home is running, you can spend your time doing what you enjoy.
You’ll still be living in your local community and will be in control of your own diary and social life. We can administer medication, take you to your medical appointments, and keep you company on trips and when you visit friends.
Helping around the house
Your live-in carer can help with light cleaning and meal prep. If you’re eligible for meals on wheels, we can also have fresh, healthy food delivered straight to your door.
If you need work done around the house or garden, we can help to find a trusted tradesperson. We have loads of great contacts in the Surrey area who we’ve worked with before.
We can also keep vulnerable people safe from scammers or nuisance callers. We live in the area too, so our team will be looking out for you if they’re passing your house whether they’re on the clock or not.
How does live-in care work?
Get in touch to arrange a meeting at your home. We’ll check if it’s suitable for live-in care – we believe it’s essential for the care worker to have their own bedroom, for example – and develop a care plan outlining your needs.
We always try our best to match care workers and clients with similar personalities and interests, and that’s even more important when it comes to live-in care. Before starting live-in care, we’ll send you profiles of our care workers and arrange an introduction so you can speak to them first.
Shift patterns
You’ll have a team of at least 3 care workers. Your primary care worker will stay with you for 4-6 weeks, then have a 1-2 week break. During this time, your secondary care worker will take over. This won’t be a stranger, it will be someone who has shadowed your primary care worker and who you’re already familiar with.
Your third care worker is there to cover holidays or care worker sickness. If you don’t get on with any of your care workers, please let us know. We’ll send someone else to shadow your primary care worker and get your feedback.
Adapting to having someone
living in your home
Having a care worker living with you can feel
strange at first, and we’re always here to help
you make the adjustment. We want you to feel comfortable with your care worker, and if there are any minor disagreements or misunderstandings, we’ll work with you to try and resolve them.
