What is respite care?

If a person’s primary caregiver takes a break or is unwell, ‘respite care’ is when a professional care worker steps in to take over their duties and provide continuity of care. We offer respite care in Banstead and the surrounding areas to give you peace of mind that your loved one is in safe hands until you’re ready to return.

Why it’s important to take a break

Caregivers are incredible people who often balance looking after a loved one alongside their jobs, other family members, and commitments. No matter how much you love someone, looking after their needs takes time and energy, and if you don’t take a break, you run the risk of poor mental health or burnout.

A lot of caregivers feel guilty about taking time for themselves, but it’s important to rest and recharge – and if you’re ill, put yourself first. You’ll recover faster and reduce the chances of passing the illness on to your loved one.

If you’re taking a family holiday, we can also send a care worker with you if you need an extra pair of hands. You can focus on having fun and making memories with the people you love, and we’ll take care of medication, mobility, and speicalist care needs.

The benefits of respite care
The right care provider can be a valuable part of your support network, even if it’s just to give you peace of mind that someone can step in at short notice in an emergency.

If you’re thinking about home care in the future, it’s also a great way to trial different providers and see how your loved one feels about receiving care from someone else. While you get more time to focus on your own wellbeing, your loved one gets to meet and engage with new people in a safe environment.

How does respite care work?

Respite care is affordable and flexible. Get in touch and we’ll arrange a chat to discuss the needs of the person receiving care and when you’d like us to start. We’ll put together a plan to ensure continuity of care, and if your loved one needs anything else while you’re away, we’ll happily accommodate them as much as possible.

Our services

We offer full home care services on a short term basis, including help with personal care, light chores, medication reminders and administration, mental health support, companionship, company on trips, and rehabilitation.

Our care workers are trained to support a range of conditions, so if your loved one has complex needs, we’ll match them with someone with the appropriate skills and training. We always try to match people with care workers they’ll get along well with, so make sure you tell us about your loved one’s hobbies and interests during our initial call.

How long does respite care last?

We can provide care for as long as you need us – whether it’s an afternoon, a month, or until further notice. That makes respite care a great option for people who don’t usually receive care but have recently been discharged from hospital. We step in with the extra support to help speed up their recovery.
